Bands of pattern hold their structure, then break into static, then gather themselves again, the way a signal degrades and a system corrects. Every mark is either information or noise, and the eye keeps ruling on which is which. A non-local constraint is order enforced at a distance — patterns that agree without touching. Across this surface, separated bands echo one another's rhythms, correlated but never connected. Up close, the surface is countable: cut lines, dense passages, dropouts. At arm's length it becomes weather like static drifting across a field. The pattern never fully resolves and never fully collapses, and perception works the seam between the two, deciding moment to moment whether it's seeing order or chaos.
