Turing's work on pattern formation in summary is the idea that complex, organic-looking textures can emerge from simple repeated rules. Up close it looks almost woven, or like static on an old TV, but it was built one decision at a time. Movement and pattern change create the action of something rigid that ends up looking like it is in motion.
